My 8TB external hard drive was damaged. I contacted Secure Data Recovery Services In Liverpool. They were extremely helpful and professional. They agreed with my preliminary diagnosis that it was a mechanical failure, and therefore it would need to be examined in their special "clean environment" lab in London.
